Possible Sentences for First Offense OVI in Ohio
Even if this is the first time you have ever been arrested, you still face jail time if convicted of OVI. Ohio has mandatory minimum jail sentences for OVI offenders which range from 3 days up to 6 months. In addition, persons convicted of a first time OVI will have their driver’s license suspended for at least 6 months and up to 3 years.
If this is your first offense for drunk driving within the last six years, you face a minimum jail term of 3 days and may be sentenced to up to 6 months in jail. Additional consequences include fines from $325 to $1,075, restricted yellow license plates, participation in an alcohol treatment program and an interlock ignition device on your vehicle. If you are convicted of first offense OVI with a BAC of .17 or greater, you will be sentenced to a minimum of 6 days in jail or 3 days in jail and a driver intervention program.
